What to Expect in a Telehealth Sleep Consultation

2 min read

Many Australians search for help with their sleep but aren’t sure where to start. A telehealth consultation is a simple way to talk through your sleep concerns with an AHPRA-registered practitioner from home.

Before your appointment

It can help to keep a simple sleep diary for a week: the times you go to bed and wake up, how long it takes to fall asleep, naps, caffeine and screen use. Note any medications you currently take and any past sleep studies.

What you may be asked

  • Your usual sleep and wake times
  • How your sleep affects your day
  • Your general health history and lifestyle
  • What you’ve already tried

What happens in the consultation

Your practitioner will listen, ask questions and discuss next steps with you. These may include sleep-hygiene information, a recommendation to see your GP, or a referral for further assessment such as a sleep study where appropriate. Every plan is individual, and your practitioner will explain the options suitable for you.

When telehealth isn’t the right fit

If you have symptoms such as stopping breathing during sleep, falling asleep while driving, or any urgent concern, see your GP or seek urgent care. In an emergency call 000.

Cost

Initial 20-minute consultation $29. Follow-ups $19. No referral needed. The practice is run from WA. Your practitioner may be based interstate.
